Module 1: Peace, conflict and health professionals

General objectives

This module serves as an introduction to Medical Peace Work. It gives a basic summary of terminology and concepts, and provides an overview of the modules that follow. Some useful peace skills are also presented.

Chapter 1.1: Introduction to peace and conflict

By the end of this chapter you will be able to describe the conceptual background of peace and conflict work. You will be able to discuss the different types and levels of violence and the different tools of conflict analysis.

Chapter 1.2: Medical Peace Work - a response to violent conflict

By the end of this chapter you will be able to describe and evaluate the rationale and framework of medical peace work. You will also be able to outline the different ways in which health professionals can prevent violence and promote peace, and identify the skills needed when undertaking non-violent communication.

Guide to module: You can choose your own path through the module. However, the following sequence is recommended:
